Laser - Frequently Asked Questions

How does laser skin treatment work?
Our lasers generate wavelengths of light which target only the blemish to be treated, thus leaving surrounding skin without damage.

Who can be treated?
Almost all skin types can be successfully treated for a wide range of blemishes including vascular (red) and pigmented (brown) lesions, acne and skin rejuvenation.

Where can I be treated?
Our lasers can be used on nearly all the body areas including face, neck, chest, back, hands, arms and legs.

How many treatments do I need?
For most vascular and pigmented lesions, often one treatment will give some benefit.  However, in more difficult cases several treatments may be required, especially for some skin rejuvenations, stretch marks and acne.

What does the treatment feel like?
The treatment is well tolerated by most patients without any form of anaesthetic.  Most patients describe a feeling similar to that of a rubber band flicking the skin.

Is the treatment safe?
Our lasers are operated by properly trained personnel and are therefore completely safe and will not cause any skin damage.
Unlike IPLs and VPLs which are broadband and which contain wavelengths that may damage other tissue, lasers are narrow-band and target ONLY the blemish being treated.

What are the results like?
Mostly the results are immediate, so that as you walk out of the clinic you will notice the disappearance of vascular lesions.  Some other lesions may take a week or so to disappear.

Peels - Frequently Asked Questions

What is a peel?
A peel revitalises the appearance of the skin, often making it smoother and more radiant.  The procedure is sometimes used on other parts of the body, including the neck and hands.

How are our peels different?
Traditional chemical peels typically consist of chemical solutions applied to the skin of form flakes and blisters that eventually peel off.  This painful, old technology destroys healthy tissue, forcing the body to heal itself.  Instead, our non-traumatic peels succeed by encouraging healthy change.

What kinds of conditions can peels help?

  • Peels are often used to improve the appearance of:
  • Acne
  • Aging skin
  • Dull, weathered skin
  • Excessive sebaceous oils
  • Post-acne scarring
  • Blackheads and whiteheads
  • Blotchy pigmentation
  • Stretch marks
  • Sunspots
  • Dark skin discoloration
  • Wrinkles
  • Scarring (non-keloidal scarring)

What are my next steps?
When considering chemical peels it is important to speak to a skin care professional who is trained to perform these types of treatments.  You may discuss with Dr James Barnes and Danielle Govoni (our fully qualified aesthetician) whether chemical peels are right for you.

Microdermabrasion - Frequently Asked Questions

What does Microdermabrasion do?
Microdermabrasion gently removes dead skin cells from the skin revealing younger, fresher looking skin while at the same time unclogging pores and stimulating new cell growth.

How long does a treatment take?
Microdermabrasion can take as little as half an hour depending on the skin condition and the area being treated.

Is Microdermabrasion painful?
No.  Microdermabrasion is not painful.  Your trained cosmetic aesthetician, Danielle Govoni, will ensure that you do not experience any discomfort while undergoing Microdermabrasion therapy.

How will my skin look immediately after treatment?
Your skin will look amazing.  The texture will be instantly smoother.  Your pores will be clean, blackheads removed.  Overall your skin will look very clean and smooth.
It may be slightly flushed and feel warm after the stimulation from the Microdermabrasion treatment.  This flushing or erythema (increase in blood flow) brings in more nutrients, vitamins and especially oxygen which helps repair the skin and stimulate collagen.  You can return to your normal activities almost immediately.

How many treatments will I require?
Your skin will feel smoother and cleaner after just one treatment.  To experience maximum results a course of 6 treatments at fortnightly intervals is usually recommended.  In some people, booster treatments every fortnight or month can be very helpful in maintaining that clean, smooth feeling.
Our aesthetician, Danielle Govoni, will discuss the number of treatments required to address your particular skin type at the time of the initial consultation.
